Bill Flamish, a three-year Letterman from 1946-48 on the Justice Era teams, died in his home in Allentown, Pa., on Sept. 1. After graduating from Allentown High in 1944, Bill enrolled at UNC and played for Coach Carl Snavely and participated in two Sugar Bowls, 1947 and 1949. He was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity, Alpha Tau Chapter and the Sigma Chi Men's Choir. Bill graduated from UNC in 1949. Following his playing days, he coached football as an assistant coach for the Tar Heels, then as freshman coach at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, and assistant at Muhlenberg College in Allentown. Bill's tenure at Muhlenberg College was from 1956-89. In addition to football, he was Professor Emeritus in Physical Education and was the head coach of the track and cross country teams for 32 years. Bill owned and operated Bill Flamish Real Estate for 26 years from 1973-99. He is survived by wife Doris and daughters Amy Flamish-Pimentel and her husband Gonzalo of Whitehall, Maria Flamish Sussman and her husband Gregory of South Whitehall, and five grandchildren, William, Anna, Alexander, Daniela and Javier. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday Sept. 16, 2018 at 2:00 pm at St. Paul's Anglican Church 2510 Livingston Street Allentown. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill's memory to support the William A. Flamish Award in Neuroscience at Muhlenberg College. This award will be presented annually to acknowledge a student who has achieved outstanding excellence in the field of Neuroscience.
