There will be no traditional spring Blue-White Game this year because of construction work ongoing in Kenan Stadium, but that won’t deter Tar Heel Lettermen from gathering in Chapel Hill the last weekend in March for their annual Spring Reunion.
The dates are March 27-28 and the weekend includes the annual Morris Mason Golf Tournament on Friday at UNC Finley Golf Course, a reception and dinner that night at the Loudermilk Center and a football scrimmage on Saturday.
Details with times and costs will be forthcoming soon to all Lettermen on our mailing list. Be on the lookout in your mailbox.
Most notable this spring will be the addition of three new coaches on defense—coordinator Gene Chizik, assistant John Papuchis and one more coach to be named.
Chizik replaces Vic Koenning and brings a stout resume that includes having been defensive coordinator at Texas in 2005 when the Longhorns won the national championship and head coach at Auburn in 2010 when the Tigers were No. 1. He’s taken two years off since leaving Auburn after the 2012 season and says the Carolina job is the perfect one to re-enter the coaching business. He respects head coach Larry Fedora, feels comfortable with Carolina’s values and thinks it has the potential to compete on ACC and national levels.
“I’m not coming out of retirement without having the chance to win a championship,” Chizik says. “I’m not putting myself in that position. Winning is important to me. That can be done here, or this probably wouldn’t have been the right job for me. So I’m all in.”
