The fourth rendition of a fund-raising golf tournament to benefit and honor the memory of several individuals important to the Tar Heel Football Family will be held Friday, June 14, at Catawba Springs Golf Course in Hickory. The Rams & Rivals for Hearts and Hope tournament is organized by Mark Sigmon (Letterman 1984) and will be a two-man captain's choice event with registration and lunch beginning at 10:30 and a shotgun start at Noon. The tournament is held in honor and memory of Luke Sigmon (Mark's grandson) who was born in December 2008 and immediately was faced with more than a year of heart procedures. He lost his life in March 2015, and Sigmon was moved to give back to families of children facing significant health issues after years of seeing the generosity of many communities, churches, businesses and individuals to help the family defray major expenses. “My brother Gene Sigmon (1960s letterman) and my son Wesley (member of the 2001 Peach Bowl team) have been Tar Heels all of our lives,” Sigmon says. “We bleed Carolina blue and it is fun rubbing the strength of our Tar Heel family in the faces of our rivals every year at this tournament. If you can make a donation, send a shirt, hat, golf balls, autographed ball and/or anything we can use to raise money at our event, I promise the proceeds will be used to help children and families that are in need. No one in our organization is paid. We all volunteer and love doing so.” Sigmon and his fellow tournament organizers are looking for Corporate Event sponsors ($10,000), Platinum sponsors ($5,000), Diamond Sponsors ($2,500),Gold sponsors ($1,000), Silver sponsors ($500), and Bronze sponsors ($250). In addition, they are looking for any merchandise, silent auction items, gift certificates or prizes that can be donated to help make this event a success.
