Tar Heel WR Hakeem Nicks continues to compile quite a library of great catches for the New York Giants in the NFL. Check out Nicks' catch against Dallas from Sunday (it's No. 3 in the video compilation of Top 10 catches from the weekend). Nicks wears 4XL gloves and his hands have been measured at 10.5 inches across the span from pinky to thumb. "I'm a little quicker, but he's got those huge hands that Eli (Manning) can throw it up to," fellow receiver Steve Smith said. The Patriots' 39-26 win over the Steelers Sunday night had plenty of action from WR Brandon Tate, who had a 45-yard catch, and TE Alge Crumpler, a key blocker in the running game and the man who recovered an onside kick. Unfortunately we also witnessed a shanked field goal by PK Jeff Reed from 26 yards out. Reed said the turf moved when he planted his left foot, and the mishap continued a sub-par season for Reed, the Steelers' kicker since mid-2002. He was15-of-22 this year, and on Tuesday the Steelers tried out and then signed Shaun Suisham. They released Reed. "At this point, we thought it appropriate to make a change," coach Mike Tomlin said. "It's not a decision that comes easy. The kicking position merits special consideration because there isn't a backup." The move left the Steelers stunned. "I couldn't believe it," QB Ben Roethlisberger said. "It was a big release," linebacker James Farrior said. "Jeff's a big-time player and we're sad to see him go." |
