T.J. Yates has now officially become the most prolific passer of all former Tar Heels in the NFL. Playing for injured starter Matt Leinart Sunday, Yates completed 8-of-15 passes for 70 yards as his Houston Texans beat Jacksonville, 20-13. Yates, a fifth-round selection and the Texans' third-team QB one month ago, is now the starter for the stretch run with injuries to Matt Schaub and Leinart. Amazingly, Carolina has never had a quarterback land in the NFL for more than a brief stretch. The only one to play at that level has been Scott Stankavage, who hit 8-of-15 passes for 66 yards over three years in the mid-1980s with the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins. So Yates and Stankavage are tied in number of completions. Yates has four-yard advantage. Here's a look from the Houston Chronicle. |
