Bob Hukill, a Tar Heel offensive lineman and Letterman from 1975-78, died Nov. 12 after an extended bout with cancer and was laid to rest Monday in Raleigh.
Bob was a native of Bucks County, Pa., and started the 1976-78 seasons for the Tar Heels, for most of that time playing right tackle and playing alongside All-ACC performer Mike Salzano and giving Carolina a formidable blocking punch on that side of the line.
Graduating in 1979, Bob was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys of the NFL and later traded to the San Francisco 49ers. After retiring from football, he was a commercial lender at Wachovia Bank and spent 33 years at GrandBridge Real Estate Capital, eventually becoming senior vice president.
The family asks that memorials be made in his name to UNC Lineberger Cancer Center Head and Neck Research; Transitions Life Care; or Wilmington (DE) Friends School, Hukill Athletic Endowment.
