Services Thursday For Mike Richey

Share |

Mike Richey, a Tar Heel linemen and Letterman from 1966-68, died at the age of 65 in his home in Charlotte on Saturday, July 28.

Richey attended Myers Park High, where he lettered in football and track and field, and then spent 1965 at Hargrave Military Academy. From there he moved on to Chapel Hill; he graduated from Carolina with a degree in economics and was selected for the East/West and North/South college all-star games.

Richey played two years in the NFL--one in Buffalo in 1969 and then in New Orleans in 1970. In 1975 he joined First Union National Bank and began a long and successful career in the banking and financial services industry.

"He was a solid player and a wonderful person," teammate Ray Farris says. "He was a credit to Carolina football and the University."

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Thursday, August 2, 2012, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Harry & Bryant is serving the family.
