Joe Mark, a Tar Heel assistant coach from 1959-66, died Friday Jan. 30 at the age of 85 at his home in Davidson. “Dad recently attended the beautifully organized 50th reunion weekend of the 1963 ACC championship team in Chapel Hill with great pride,” says his son Chip. “He loved reconnecting with his former players and members of that great team. He and his coaching colleagues had some big wins in those years beating Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan State and, of course, Duke, 50 to zip, one year. He recruited Chris Hanburger, Joe Robinson and Charlie Carr, to name a few really good ones. He loved his years at Chapel Hill and the association with the players and coaches and always looked fondly on those years.” A link to his obituary notice can be found here. A memorial service will be held at Davidson United Methodist Church on Wednesday, February 4th at 1:30 pm. |
